Sheriff's deputies donate toys to abused children for the holidays

HOUSTON – For the 19th year in a row the Harris County Sheriff's Office partnered with Santa and Mrs. Claus to spread some holiday cheer at the Children's Assessment Center.

Deputies gladly escorted an 18-wheeler full of toys to the center on Monday.

"They give from their very own pocketbooks to children who have gone through some very difficult circumstances," said Sheriff Adrian Garcia.

Hundreds of sexually abused children will know that there are people in Houston who care about them.

"Childhood is such a special time and when it is interrupted by abuse it's dramatic for children, Going out and collecting these toys," Elaine Stolte, Executive Director of the CAC.

"It's always a great occasion," Sheriff Garcia said.

The members of the Sheriff's Office feel great about stepping in and acting as the real Santas, fulfilling the kids' wish lists.

Over 500 children will be helped this Christmas, thanks to the thousands of officers making a difference this holiday season.
