Sexual assault of woman reported at senior living facility

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a woman at a senior living community.

"I heard like a boom boom boom noise," said David Richmond.

That sound was someone busting down a patio door at the Primrose at Heritage Park Senior Living Community on Bammel North Houston In Northwest Harris County.

Richmond later learned it was the door to his downstairs neighbor's apartment.

"She's a nice lady," Richmond said. "She doesn't bother anybody and it's real sad because there are a lot of senior citizens over here and it doesn't make any sense at all."

Around 4 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a report of the 63-year-old woman who'd been sexually assaulted in her ground-floor apartment.

Neighbors told Local 2 the woman had been beaten and raped. But attacker was no where to be found.

"I went to see her and I'm surprised it was her. I feel sad about what happened," Lorenzo DeBernardi said.

He said the news of the attack made him sick to his stomach. He knows the victim and can't understand why someone would target her.

"Every time I hear something on this property it drives me crazy," said Peg Coleman, a resident at the complex.

She said she's worried about her own safety and claims the security gate to the complex is often left open, allowing anyone access to the property.

"The well being of residents is of the utmost importance," said Kerri Fulks, a spokeswoman for the management company.

She also told Local 2 that the company is cooperating with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

No arrests have been made at this time. The victim's condition is not known.
