Mother, son found dead in NW Harris County home identified

Relatives say they came to check on the pair, but found their bodies instead

HARRIS COUNTY – A northwest Harris County home was a crime scene Thursday morning after a mother and son were found dead. Detectives are still trying to figure out who killed them.

With the home on East Windhaven Terrace surrounded with crime tape, neighbors who live in the community are on edge. Ben Abrams lives next door to where a mother and son where found dead inside their two story home overnight.

"It's unbelievable to know that something like that happened so close to home, kinda scary. I hurt for their family," Abrams said.

Harris County detectives say one body was found upstairs, another downstairs in a study. The victims may have been killed a couple of days ago, but only discovered Thursday morning when relatives showed up to check on them.

"We are trying to determine what happened inside the residence. There doesn't seem to appear to be any type of struggle inside the residence or anything missing at this point. We are attempting to contact the husband of the residence," said Felipe Rivera with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The husband and father of the two victims is missing and hasn't been heard from since the murders.

"This is a very quiet neighborhood, you don't normally hear anything, something like this. It's very shocking to come out and see this," said neighbor Roman Valderrama.

Crime scene investigators spent the hours inside the home. They are trying to determine whether the victims were shot or stabbed to death.

The victims were identified as Emilia Matase and Emanuel Matase.
