Man grazed by bullet while driving to work

HOUSTON – A man was grazed by a bullet that came through his windshield as he drove to work in northwest Harris County on Friday.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the shooting happened on Veterans Memorial Drive near West Road about 6 a.m.

Investigators said a bullet went through the 51-year-old Joel Cox's windshield and fragments then grazed his head. Cox's skin was scraped off of his scalp, officials said.

Cox pulled into a nearby gas station and called his wife, officials said. She went to the gas station, saw all the blood and called 911.

Cox was rushed to a hospital. His condition has not been released, but detectives said he was talking to them.

Relatives and friends said Cox is a minister, a truck driver and a musician.

Detectives said they are investigating to determine where the shot was fired from and who pulled the trigger. The gas station has surveillance cameras, and investigators are looking at the video to see if it gives them any clues.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
