Clinton Drive reconstruction includes major water line assessment

City: People in area may notice lower-than-usual water pressure

HOUSTON – Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation and Harris County are trying to improve the area of Clinton Drive, from North Wayside Drive to IH-610, and the project will include rebuilding four lanes, and making adjustments to underground utilities, the Department of Public Works and Engineering said Friday.

The work will require officials to shut down the 8-foot-diameter water transmission main along Clinton Drive in Houston, according to a news release.

During the shutdown, the city will look at the condition of the 96-inch water line, and make repairs and other improvements to it.

Officials made some tweaks to the distribution system and some operational changes, to offset any possible water service problems. Still, people who live in affected areas might notice lower water pressure until the project is finished.

The water line will be shut down at the end of October 2016, and should return to service before February 2017.

"The safe delivery of water is our main goal and we are working to complete the assessment and related work as quickly as possible," officials said in a written statement.
