HOUSTON - Two men have been arrested after leading deputies on a chase in northeast Harris County. We've learned that the chase stemmed from a frightening carjacking overnight.
The homeowner says he was on the phone with his son when all of this happened. His son arrived home on Blue Meadow Drive, parked the car and that's when two guys approached him with a gun telling him to get out.
The family that lives inside of the home says in 25 years they have never experienced any crime in their northeast Harris County neighborhood until Tuesday night. The father says he ran outside early this morning to find his 20-year-old son on the ground and his car gone.
"The vehicle was stolen, it was taken in a carjacking earlier in the night," said Deputy Wilkie with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
According to investigators, two crooks carjacked the son at gun point and then went for spin, but their joy ride took a different turn when a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the stolen car.
"Had an officer attempt to pull a vehicle over for running a stop sign. The vehicle failed to stop and the deputy chased him," Deputy Wilkie said.
During the chase, deputies tell us the suspects were swerving up side streets until they got to Lauder and Homestead.
"He lost control, ran off the road, went back into the middle of the road going sideways and the deputy ran into the side of the vehicle," said Deputy Wilkie.
Both suspects ran from the scene. Officials said after deputies set up a perimeter, they found both men hiding. They were arrested.
The family says they are glad the suspects are going to jail, but are still in shock over the reckless crime. According to the father, he's happy his son was unharmed.
We spoke to neighbors and they say they really look out for each other, and they are glad that the suspects in this case were caught.
The deputies involved in the chase, including the accident, were not injured.
