HARRIS COUNTY – Two Klein ISD schools have been given the all-clear after buildings were secured earlier Wednesday while authorities searched for the man who led deputies on a chase and crashed his SUV into a home in northwest Harris County.
It all started at around 7 a.m. Wednesday when the suspect led DPS troopers into a neighborhood off Rolling Creek Drive after an attempted traffic stop.
Officials said at some point, the man lost control of the SUV and crashed through the garage and into the backyard of a home in the 17900 block of Rolling Ridge.
After crashing the SUV -- that police say was stolen -- the man got out of the vehicle and took off running.
Authorities say the man had taken the SUV for a test drive, but never returned it to the NexCar dealership off of I-45 in north Harris County.
The dealership manager, Scot Seim, says, "Gentleman come in around one o'clock and provide false information, took the vehicle out on a test drive with a sales consultant. He was going to show it to his wife and the sales person got out of the vehicle and he drove off."
At the crash scene, DPS troopers and Precinct 4 constables set up a perimeter around the home near Cypress Cove Drive.
The owner of the home was not there at the time and says was getting ready to sell the home.
"My husband died two years ago and I've been fixing it up, painting it. I was over here Sunday and everything was just fine now three days later, now look," Mary Gould said.
Klein ISD secured Strack Intermediate and Benfer Elementary schools while authorities search the surrounding neighborhood for the suspect.
The district wrote in a statement, "For the safety of our students and employees, KISD police will remain on campus until the area has been deemed secured."
Shortly after noon, both schools resumed normal activities after the area was secured. The district says police will be present on campus throughout the afternoon.
Officials believe the suspect is injured because witnesses reported that he was very bloody after the crash.
Authorities believe the house was vacant because the owner recently passed away.
