Galveston County takes extra steps to protect beach goers July 4th weekend

Galveston officials warn to only swim where there are life guards

Galveston – Galveston officials are doing their best to protect and warn swimmers on July 4 to only swim where there are lifeguards on the beach.

U.S. Coastguard Chief Kevin Newman, said, " It's "Very difficult to find someone who's been pulled under water. We recommend the safest way is to go to a public beach where there are lifeguards and other emergency personnel immediately available."

Four people have already died at San Luis Pass.

David Popoff, the Galveston County emergency management coordinator says the county has brought in an organization called Texas Research and Rescue, that brings search and rescue technicians, rescue swimmers and wild land firefighters.

Galveston County life gaurds will be out in full force this July 4 weekend, making sure beach goers are safe.
