GALVESTON – A Houston man charged with opening fire outside a Texas courthouse has been convicted of capital murder in the shooting of a 79-year-old bystander outside a Texas courthouse.

Bartholomew Granger denied killing a 79-year-old woman outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont.

Granger told jurors in Galveston that his intent was to target his daughter and her mother in retaliation for false testimony against him in a sexual misconduct trial.

Granger also said he doesn't remember much about that day in March of 2012.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
