Woman held up, robbed in driveway

Neighbors think victim was targeted

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A woman was robbed at gunpoint in her own driveway Tuesday night in the Mission Bend subdivision in Fort Bend County.

The woman was coming home in the 15300 block of Riverside Grove Drive at around 11:30 p.m. As she walked toward her front door, a man approached and showed her a gun. Investigators said he hit her and stole her purse. An accomplice was standing on the sidewalk and both men fled.

"In this case the culprits were in place and ready to attack when she drove in," said Bob Haenel, a spokesman for the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. "What we're looking for right now are two black male suspects. One is 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build. The second suspect is 5 feet 5 inches tall and both were wearing dark, sweater style hoodie shirts during the attack."

Residents who live in the area were shocked to hear about such a violent crime happening in their neighborhood.

"We've been living out here since 1988 and we never had issues like this," said Frank Alvarez, who lives across the street from the victim. "I know the family and what hours they keep and when they come and go. So somebody was either sitting out here that happened to drive and notice and that's what happened."

Alvarez said the victim's family usually comes home late at night from work and he worries that this woman was targeted.

Neighbors said they're going to be extra careful especially when they're coming and going late at night.

"Yeah, I'm going to watch my back," said Rezene Mehari.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is investigating and Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
