FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas - For the Brown family Friday's 5:00 a.m. wake-up call came in the form of a nine foot alligator. The creature was sitting right outside one of their daughters' windows in Missouri City after two of their dogs started barking uncontrollably.
Janet Jackson-Brown went outside to see what the disturbance was, went back inside when she heard her daughter scream, and saw the gator just feet away outside the window. It was a big gator.
"He was not something I would want to run into," says "I would feel totally intimidated. I would be horrified for the kids to be around him."
The Brown's snapped photos after sheriff's deputies arrived on scene. With the neighborhood lakes and the Brazos River nearby gators are nothing new. But to have a big animal outside your window brings it a little closer to home.
"Our little dog was trembling and he could tell that that wasn't even something to bark at," says Jackson-Brown. "He wouldn't even bark, it was so frightening to him."
The gator eventually leisurely made it back to the water on its own -- followed by deputies, neighbors, and even the Browns' cat. Texas Parks and Wildlife wardens -- who were coming to the neighborhood to capture another gator -- decided to take this one too. But because there are most certainly other gators out there -- the Brown children will be changing their habits.
"Ordinarily they walk through here to their friends' houses and things like that," says Brown. So, all of that will be out for sure."
