Angleton man arrested after chase, confesses to burglaries in Brazoria Co.

BRAZORIA COUNTY – An Angleton man who was arrested after leading officers on a chase has confessed to a series of burglaries in Brazoria County, according to the sheriff's office.

Steven Lee Smith, 44, is charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office said Smith was driving a stolen vehicle and led Pearland police on a chase on Sunday.

Smith was arrested and transported to the Brazoria County Jail.

While in custody, the sheriff's office said Smith confessed to investigators to over 10 different burglaries, attempted burglaries and burglary of motor vehicles in the southern part of Brazoria County.

Officials said additional charges are pending.
