HOUSTON -

A local woman said a neighbor killed her Husky puppy when the dog managed to crawl under a fence onto the neighbor's property.

"The dog was such an angel. There was no need for this, there was no need for this. It was senseless," Sheree Tillman said.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is investigating but did confirm for Local 2 that residents do have the right to protect themselves using deadly force, but only when the animal shows some type of aggression.

Right now it's unclear exactly how the dog was acting at the time.

Local 2 tried talking to the person who owns the property where the dog was shot. The woman who came to the door refused to open it and talk with us.

Tillman said she is frustrated because she worries her situation could happen to anyone.

A dog getting loose is not uncommon, and Tillman said her dog was not an aggressive dog and wouldn't have ever hurt anyone.

No one has been charged in this case and it's unclear if anyone will be charged.
