Local 2's Rachel McNeill prepares for the Winter Olympics in Sochi

HOUSTON – Local 2's Rachel McNeill is packed and ready for her three-week long trip to Sochi, Russia for the Winter Olympics.

With temperatures expected in the 40s and 50s during the day, packing for the winter weather was key, Rachel said, and included lots of layers -- everything from blankets, to jackets, to earmuffs.

Also on the list of go-to Sochi garb: ski pants.

Rachel said she hopes to hit the slopes at some point during her trip.

"I'm hoping I'll be able to make it out on the slopes a couple of days and do some skiing," Rachel said.

Rachel admitted she's also relying on body warmers to help her adjust to life in Sochi.

"I am a Houstonian and a Jamaican," said Rachel. "I'm not ready for the cold. This stuff [body warmers] really works. Trust me."

But perhaps her main winter weather accessory will be hats.

"I am bringing 20 hats and headgear to Sochi," Rachel declared. "So thankfully, my boss shared with me her box of hats. She's got this great stuff brought in from Detroit, so I'm going to have lots of cute things and lots of different looks."

Why the overabundance of hats?

"You've got to keep your head warm, that's what everyone says, right?" Rachel asked.

Rachel's journey to Sochi begins February 1. She'll provide daily updates in live reports throughout the Winter Games on KPRC Local 2.
