The deputy administered CPR while the boy was in the ambulance en route to the hospital. Jara was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.

According to investigators, the boy was playing in the family's backyard when the accident happened. The mother was inside the home doing chores. Deputies said it appears the boy was trying to climb on when the pit fell over on him.
