A Liberty County man has been charged in his son's shooting death.
Deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 1100 CR 450 around 3:45 p.m. Thursday after James Nesler, 62, called 911 to say that he had shot his son.
Investigators said Nesler lived at the home with his son, 27-year-old J.A. Nesler.
Officials said an argument took place between the younger Nesler and his visiting friend Thursday afternoon. Soon after, there was an argument between father and son.
Nesler told investigators that his son came towards him in a threatening manner. In an attempt to stop the argument, the father said he fired one warning shot from his .357 revolver that was meant to hit his son's shoulder.
The younger Nesler was shot in the chest, according to the sheriff’s office. He died at the scene.
The victim’s father was taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. Investigators also interviewed witnesses.
The sheriff's office said James Nesler was charged with murder Friday morning and taken to the Liberty County Jail.
Bond was set at $500,000.
