Lawyers for man facing deportation to seek federal injunction

HOUSTON – Lawyers for a man facing deportation to El Salvador said they will file paperwork to seek a federal injunction to stop the process.

Juan Rodriguez’s family said he illegally immigrated to the United States from the Latin American country in 2001 to be with his wife and first-born daughter. He was denied temporary protected status, but stayed in the U.S. after being told to return home voluntarily. He has been checking in with immigration officials on a regular basis ever since.

In February, ICE told Rodriguez his time was up. He is scheduled to be deported June 29.

Attorneys for Rodriguez announced Monday that they plan to ask a federal judge to block the deportation on religious grounds.

Advocates for Rodriguez held a news conference Monday morning.
