Last minute shoppers pack the stores in Houston

Search for perfect present down to the wire

HOUSTON – At the Walgreens on Westheimer and Sage Roads the line at the check-out wrapped around the store as last minute shoppers paid for their purchases.

"Just picking up some last minute Christmas cards, didn't have time to shop so I had to do it last minute," said Josh Bailey.

"I am looking for some last minute gifts for my little boy," said Kris Dobson, who had a shopping cart filled with gifts. "I spent a lot of money in here today."

Walgreens is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.  For the last minute shopper it's a great place to stop.

The manager inside the store told Local 2 the hottest last minute gifts are perfume and gift cards. They also have a large selection of toys for the kids.

Other stores were open on Christmas Eve and even had extended hours, but closed early:

  • Target 7am - 9pm
  • Walmart closed at 6pm
  • Best Buy 7am - 5pm
  • Toys R Us closed at 10pm
  • Macy's closed at 6pm

None of the above mentioned stores have Christmas day hours, except Walgreens. They will remain open 24 hours.
