HOUSTON -

A lamp was blamed for starting a house fire in west Houston Thursday evening.

Fire officials said a father and his teenage son were home when the fire broke in a bedroom of their home on Westella near Westmead.

Investigators said a lamp shorted out and caught some curtains on fire.

Fire crews were able to knock out the flames before they spread to the rest of the house.

The father and son were able to get out safely.
