La Porte local takes the stage on "The Voice"

LA PORTE, Texas – La Porte's Jake Worthington hit the stage on the first night of the live rounds on NBC's hit show "The Voice." With his rendition of Travis Tritt's "Anymore," he not only wowed the audience in Los Angeles, he put on a show for a special crowd in his hometown.

"Man, this is hometown right here," said Worthington's father Bubba. "I tell you what, it can't get any better than this."

Nearly 200 people turned out to cheer on Jake Worthington at Southern Komfort Kitchen on Underwood Road. Friends, family and even La Porte's mayor said they are proud of their local guy.

"Who would've thought? It's great," said La Porte Mayor Louis Rigby. "We're happy to see him there and look forward to him moving forward."

Perhaps none more proud than Bubba Worthington, holding down the fort at home with Jake Worthington's mom in L.A., with their budding superstar.

"It's crazy," said Bubba Worthington. "Sometimes I get ready to pinch myself, you know, and wake up from all this stuff."

He'll have at least one more night to dream. Voters will decide if Jake Worthington makes the cut from 12 contestants to 10. The outcome will be announced on Tuesday evening's live broadcast.
