A local high school student has been arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded gun onto campus.
On Wednesday morning, police say they responded to La Marque High School in reference to a student who was in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun.
La Marque police say an anonymous tip was made to school officials that lead to Jerome Jeray Joiner being caught with the handgun. Joiner, 17, was taken into police custody and transported to the La Marque Police Department Jail.
Joiner is charged with unlawful carrying weapon within a weapon free zone. He's being held on $5,000 bond.
"We notified parents and let them know everyone was safe and students were still testing," said Terry Watkins, La Marque ISD Superintendent. "There was no disruption to the school."
Police say they don't know why Joiner took the loaded handgun to the school or how he got possession of the weapon.
Anyone with information related to this offense can make contact with the La Marque Police Department or the La Marque Crime Stoppers.
