HOUSTON – A man and a woman are facing charges after they were found passed out in car at a traffic light in northeast Houston with a 3-year-old child in the back seat, court documents said.

An officer spotted Fernando Rivera and Rockelle Guedea Dec. 2 in a car that was stopped at a green light in the 300 block of Uvalde Road. The officer pulled behind the vehicle and honked his horn, but the driver did not move, the affidavit said.

The officer said he walked up to the driver’s side of the vehicle and found Rivera asleep with his head against the window. Guedea was asleep in the passenger’s seat with her head resting on the dashboard, the officer said. When he hit the passenger’s seat, Guedea woke up and hit Rivera to get him to wake up, court papers said.

Rivera woke up and tried to drive away, but was stopped by other vehicles, court papers said.

The officer said when Rivera got out of the car, he appeared to be disoriented and couldn’t stand up straight and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, according to court documents. Rivera admitted to the officer that he had been smoking Kush, a form of synthetic cannabis, before he got behind the wheel.

Guedea told the officer she knew Rivera had been smoking and allowed him to drive with the child in the car.

Guedea and Rivera are charged with endangering a child.

Bail has been set at $2,000 for each.
