Kroger targeted by smash-and-grab thieves

Thieves crashed stolen truck into store

HOUSTON – A stolen pickup truck was used for a smash-and-grab crime at a Kroger store in the Heights Friday.

Police said the burglary happened at Kroger, 239 W. 20th Street, around 4:45 a.m. Investigators said the thieves smashed a stolen white truck into the front glass windows of the store. That truck was reported stolen on Thursday.

Officials said employees were inside the store, but no one was hurt.

Police said the crooks appeared to be after the ATM, which was knocked on its side. However, the thieves may not have gotten away with anything.

The abandoned stolen truck was found about two blocks away on W. 22nd Street. No arrests have been made in the case.
