Uber study finds new way to avoid surge pricing and other business news

HOUSTON – Saving money on an Uber fare could be as easy as walking a few blocks away.

According to a new study from Northeastern University, Uber's surge-pricing algorithm resets every five minutes and changes based on zones, which are often close together. It found that 40 percent of surges only last five minutes. Taking a short walk can save riders as much as 20 percent off their fare, according to the study.

Halloween's sure to be one of the busiest nights of the year for Uber, but it's getting more expensive regardless of how people choose to get around on the big night. Candy prices are up 4.2 percent compared to October of last year. Experts blame the rising prices of raw sugar.
