Kingwood native torches 8 cars after wedding called off, police say

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A native of Kingwood, Texas, is accused of setting fire to eight cars earlier this month in Plattsburgh, New York, after his wedding was called off.

WPTZ-TV reported that Jimmy Williams, 35, was living in the Upstate New York town and was to be married on July 8, but that did not happen.

Police said that on the following day Williams attended a festival and is believed to have been drinking. They said that as Williams was walking home, he took out his anger about his canceled nuptials by starting fires inside eight cars.

The vehicles sustained varying levels of damage, WPTZ-TV reported. Some were destroyed while other had minor damage.

Police said Williams fled to his hometown, where he was arrested and extradited to Plattsburgh to face eight counts of third-degree arson.

Williams was being held in the Clinton County Jail on $100,000 bond.
