Katy recovering from high water in neighborhoods

KATY, Texas – A Memorial Day soaker left several streets in a Katy neighborhood underwater.

Local 2 viewer Matt Barcus came to the rescue of an a SUV that got stuck in the floodwaters right outside his home near Westgreen & Park Royale.

"He just started laying on the horn so I figured I might as well go out there and give him a little push," Barcus said.

Barcus's wife shot video of the rescue with her iPhone. The water was so high in some spots, the Barcus' front yard was submerged. Drivers attempting to navigate the waterlogged street in front of their home only added to the misery.

The wake caused by passing vehicles was so strong, the water almost went into the family's home.

"Once it started, that red blip on the radar hit right above our house. It started getting pretty heavy," Barcus said.

Road conditions weren't much better at Westheimer Road and South Mason Road. Drivers there used caution as they steered through rushing floodwaters that engulfed much of the area.
