Katy man accused of posing as FBI agent to steal from lost & found

Theft happened at motel, police say

HOUSTON – A Katy man is accused of posing as an FBI agent so he could steal from a motel's lost and found.

According to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Travis N. Jordan, 42, wore handcuffs on his waistband and flashed bogus credentials at the motel near the Sam Houston Parkway.

Prosecutors said Jordan got access to the lost and found section by claiming he was searching for evidence left at the motel. He is accused of stealing prescription drugs and credit cards.

The clerk was suspicious and called police. Officers arrived while Jordan was still at the motel and arrested him.

The district attorney's office sent out a press release on Wednesday announcing the arrest. “Fake officers fuel uncertainty and mistrust among the public for legitimate law enforcement officers,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said. “That is why this is an especially dangerous crime.”

Jordan was charged with impersonating a peace officer. He faces two to ten years in prison if convicted.
