Justin Stapleton

Meteorologist

HOUSTON – Justin is the Weekend Meteorologist for the KPRC 2 Severe Weather Team. He joined KPRC 2 in January 2015 from KEZI in Eugene, Oregon, where he was chief meteorologist.

Justin has had a unique journey to Southeast Texas. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Justin earned a Masters degree in clinical psychology from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, and worked as a crisis intervention specialist with the Baltimore County Police.

After working almost a decade in the mental health field both teaching students and police how to handle situations with mentally ill individuals, he decided to go after his true passion and become a broadcast meteorologist. He returned to school to receive a masters in geosciences from Mississippi State University in 2007.

While he was still finishing his degree at Mississippi State, Justin got his professional career started as the weekend meteorologist at WCBI in Columbus, Mississippi. After graduating, he was promoted to the morning meteorologist for the next two years. He then took off for the beautiful Pacific Northwest to serve as chief meteorologist at KEZI from 2009-2014.

Justin has worked through multiple severe weather outbreaks, including deadly tornadoes in Mississippi, damaging wind storms and wildfires in the Northwest, as well as handling crisis negotiations in Maryland. He is ready to tackle the challenging and ever-changing weather of Houston and Southeast Texas.

Away from the weather green screen, Justin is an avid runner, who loves to travel, live sports, good local food and flavor but is most proud of his role as dad to his two daughters. He is excited to call Houston and Southeast Texas home!
