HOUSTON - The man accused of killing a popular high school student in a car crash is preparing to spend the next five years behind bars.
This was not 20-year-old Daniel Freund's first run in with the law over reckless driving.
Freund took a five-year plea deal to the felony offense of intoxication manslaughter Monday, admitting to killing 16-year-old Halie McDonald in a deadly car crash in 2012.
Freund must spend at least 30 months behind bars before being eligible for parole.
