HOUSTON - Lakewood Church Pastor Joel Osteen plans to make a reality TV show aimed at making a difference in the world.
Osteen is developing a series with Mark Burnett, the producer "The Apprentice," "The Voice" and "Survivor."
"It's another way to take our message of hope and inspiring people to another venue," Osteen said.
Details of the show are still being developed. The show has not been picked up by a network yet.
Participants will be given an opportunity to go on a mission with Osteen and spend several weeks "fixing things."
"The thought is people would give up their time and come, not necessarily know where they're going that day, but they'd show up and we'd load up some planes and head out and make a difference in the world," Osteen said.
Osteen said he decided to take Burnett's offer because he's become a family friend.
"We spent a lot of time together, not necessarily with the idea of starting a show, but becoming friends," Osteen said. "I like 'The Apprentice.' My kids like 'The Voice.' I like his work."
Burnett's wife, actress Roma Downey, would also be involved in the show.
Osteen said they're considering six to eight episodes -- whatever he and his wife, Victoria, could fit into their schedules.
"I wouldn't necessarily be a pastor in this," Osteen said. "I'm not going to be teaching or sharing scriptures. We're going to be ambassadors of hope and goodwill and faith."
Osteen is a familiar face to viewers across the globe as his sermons are broadcast in several languages and in several countries.
