Eastex Freeway reopens after jackknifed truck prompts closure

Truck crashed into concrete barrier, officials say

HOUSTON – A tractor-trailer that jackknifed closed a section of the Eastex Freeway on Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported at 10:10 a.m. on the southbound side of U.S. Highway 59 at the Little York Road exit.

Danny Perez, spokesman for the Texas Department of Transportation, said the big rig crashed into a concrete barrier.

Video from a Houston Transtar camera showed that officials shut down all but one lane of the freeway while they worked to remove the wreckage. By 11:15 a.m., the freeway had been reopened.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in the crash.

Perez said it is possible the tractor-trailer jackknifed because of water on the highway.
