JACINTO CITY – Jacinto City's first female has died after a battle with cancer.
Mayor Rachel Nunez passed away Friday and is survived by her husband, J. Felix Hernandez, two sons and four grandchildren.
As mayor of Jacinto City, Nunez presided over city council meetings and was recognized as the head of city government for ceremonial purposes, according to the city's website.
Prior to serving as mayor, Nunez served on the city council for seven years.
