J.J. Watt scuffles again with Broncos during joint practice

DENVER, Colorado – Day three of joint workouts have closed out in Denver and Thursday afternoon was highlighted by a second consecutive scuffle during practice involving Texans defensive end J.J. Watt.

It's not surprising, according to Texans head Coach Bill O'Brien.

"I'm sure anytime you go against, in my opinion, probably the best defensive player in the league, you know, you're probably excited to go against that guy," said O'Brien. "So there's a little extra rev. But J.J.'s got great poise. He's had a good week here this week and we're expecting really good things from him this year."

Watt's first altercation came in Wednesday's practice with Broncos tackle Chris Clark. Then late in Thursday's workout Watt again was challenged by Broncos guard Orlando Franklin.

"You guys saw what happened yesterday. You win on the field. You don't have to fight when you win on the field. When you win the rep, then people tend to get chippy, so that's fine," said Watt. "If you want to fight, that's fine. It's just funny to me when people want to fight after you get beat on a play, but that's fine.  That's football. Boys will be boys. You know how that goes. Handle it like a man. I don't think there was a real major scuffle so that's always a good thing."

Watt and the Texans will hold a private workout Friday and then take on the Broncos Saturday night. O'Brien says he's unsure how many reps the starters will get.

The Texans close out the preseason next Thursday at home against the San Francisco 49ers.
