NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Hurricane Isaac pounded its way into the Crescent City with heavy rain and winds, causing street flooding and power outages Tuesday.
Isaac's path pushed the waters of Lake Pontchartrain towards land causing huge swells to slam into the shoreline.

By early Monday afternoon, the main street running along the lake was impassable. However, several people walked to the top of the levee to snap pictures of the rarely seen waves.
In neighborhoods south of the lake, downed power lines and blown transformers were knocking out power to pockets of neighborhoods where many people decided to ride out the storm.
"I'm a solider," said Maurice Crump. "I stayed for the last one, I'm staying for this one."
Crump and 15 members of his family crowded into his house to watch movies and wait for Isaac to pass.
"I don't think this will be like Katrina," said Rosemarie Crump. "A little wind, a little rain, a little darkness."
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal reported that 1,000 National Guard troops were in New Orleans to assist police and firefighters. Jindal also said a FEMA search and rescue team was based in New Orleans, with a second team staged in Baton Rouge and a third team ready to be deployed in Shreveport.
