Investigator killed in motorcycle crash

KATY, Texas – An off-duty sheriff's investigator died in a motorcycle crash on Sunday.

Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies said Shelley Nicodemus, 45, was a passenger on a motorcycle that crashed on the feeder road of Interstate 10 near Pin Oak Road in Katy.

Detectives said the driver, Moses Perez, who is also with the sheriff's office, appeared to have hit a curb. That caused the motorcycle to skid, investigators said.

Nicodemus' body was found about 30 feet from the motorcycle, investigators said. She died at the scene.

Perez was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He suffered head and back injuries.

Nicodemus worked in the special crimes unit and the criminal investigation division. She had been with the sheriff's office for about 20 years.

Perez is a detective in the burglary and theft unit of the criminal investigations division. He has been with the sheriff's office for about 20 years.
