Inmate rams head into X-ray machine, causing $100,000 worth of damage

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man jailed for murder in Harris County caused $100,000 worth of damage to an X-ray machine during a medical screening Wednesday.

Darrius Nichols, 22, was charged with murder and sent to jail September 1, 2015, after he shot two people, killing one, outside a Texas Southern University dormitory.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday, Nichols was receiving a medical screening in the Harris County jail when he rammed his head into an X-ray machine.

Deputies said he broke the machine into two pieces, damaging the computer, mounting bracket and the adjustment mechanism.

Deputies have not said if he suffered any injuries during the incident.
