Injured puppy found with maggot-infested wounds expected to recover

HOUSTON – The Houston SPCA are asking for help as they investigate a case of animal cruelty.

Officials said a severely injured 7-week-old Chow mix puppy was found in the bushes after someone left a harness tightly strapped to the little pup's body at the Starbucks near Kingwood Drive and Green Oaks Drive earlier this week.

The puppy was rushed to a shelter with gaping, maggot-infested wounds. Veterinarians are working to nurse her back to health.

Houston SPCA says she is not currently available for adoption because of the severity of her injuries.

Officials said they are optimistic about her chances for a full recovery, but say it will take time and probably additional surgeries before she is completely healed.

Anyone with information on a suspect is asked to call the Houston SPCA at 713-869-SPCA (7722).
