I-10 west to be closed at 610 East Loop this weekend

HOUSTON – We know it’s a busy weekend for many as BBQ cookoff kicks off the rodeo season. And we have a traffic alert for eastsiders as they make those weekend plans to the cookoff or elsewhere.

This Friday at 9 p.m. thru 5 a.m. Monday, I-10 westbound/inbound will be closed between I-610 East Loop and Wayside Drive.

Crews are making repairs to the rail bridge that has been repeatedly hit by oversize trucks and vehicles.

Repairs will be made to the support girders on the underside of the bridge. This will help to ensure the safety and integrity of the bridge.

While the rail bridge is out of service, freight train traffic will be re-routed on different lines through the city. As a result, you may see a variance from normal train traffic patterns.

In the meantime, drivers coming in from Jacinto City, Channelview, Cloverleaf, Baytown, Mont Belvieu or other points east are encouraged to take the East Beltway, East Loop or the Washburn Tunnel to avoid delays.

Westbound traffic on I-10 will be detoured to the 610 East Loop north or south. Highway 90 westbound traffic will also be detoured to 610 East Loop north or south.

Drivers can then take I-45 or Highway 59 back to I-10 west.
