Cheryl Groves was at the parade. She said she loves America and what it stands for, and it's vital that we support the people who've served.

"They do all the work that we don't," said Groves.

The crowd was also filled with veterans and their families. For them, a day to remember the sacrifices they made is deeply personal.

"My uncles were in the Army, my sons are in the Marines, my godsons are in the Marines, so basically I'm a family military person," said Norma Olivares, who came to the parade.

Luis Rey brought his family to the event. Including his father-in-law who served the country more than three decades ago.

"Just to celebrate and give thanks to all the veterans who've fought. And also to commemorate my father-in-law, who is a Vietnam vet," said Rey.

In addition to Sunday's parade, the city of Houston also held a job fair and a health fair.
