Human remains discovered in apartment complex

HOUSTON – Houston Police said a perspective buyer came to look at a run-down apartment complex at 6303 Cullen, in southeast Houston and discovered a human skull in the courtyard Monday.

Investigators said they found most of what is believed to be an adult woman's skeletal remains spread around the property. Police believe animals scattered the remains.

"I was just shocked." said neighbor, Wilfred Carlot. He told Local 2, "We smelled it earlier. About a month ago, something like that. Then all of a sudden, the scent went away."

Carlot showed Local 2 more bones he had just discovered on London Street. That is on the opposite side of the block from the apartments.

Local 2 called investigators who came out and collected the two bone fragments for the medical examiner. At first inspection, police and the medical examiner believed they could be human remains.

Police said it could be a couple of days before more information is available.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the identity and cause of death of the woman.

What happens next depends on the results of the autopsy. If you have information about this case, please call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
