The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement regarding the investigation of a death in custody.

Kenneth Christopher Lucas died at the Harris County jail on Feb. 17.

Authorities say he died from a hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease that was aggravated by physical restraint.

The incident is being investigated by the Harris County’es inspector general, internal affairs division and homicide division.

"At the Harris County Sheriff's Office all life is precious, and no matter the circumstances of how a death may occur, while in our custody or not, it is unfortunate," Sheriff Adrian Garcia said in a statement. "A thorough review of the actions of HCSO employees is being conducted and if necessary enhancements will be implemented to ensure that our jail system meets the highest standards in the country.”
