HPD: Thieves near IAH arrested in chase

HOUSTON – Houston police officers arrest two suspects who may be behind a rash of vehicle break-ins in the area surrounding Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Over the last couple of days, police stepped up their efforts in the area to combat an increasing number of motor vehicle burglaries in the area.

On Friday Lt. Chandra Davis said officers were conducting surveillance when they noticed suspicious activity in the area of Aldine Westfield and Beltway 8 and took action.

"Our officers actually witnessed them break into one car, they attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle refused to stop and they initiated a vehicle pursuit," said Davis.

Davis said during the pursuit, the suspects began throwing stolen items from their vehicle. The chase lasted about two miles before the suspects got out of the vehicle and took off running.

They were eventually taken into custody in the area of Aldine Bender and Alligent.

Police believe the two suspects were responsible for two vehicle burglaries that happened Friday afternoon and they may also be connected to others in the area.

Their identities haven't been released.
