HPD: Teen killed in street race

Wet roads may have caused the crash

HOUSTON – A 17-year-old was killed during a street race in west Houston, police said.

Houston police said the teen was driving a Chevrolet Camero and racing against a Mercedes on Briar Forest and West Eldridge in west Houston Friday night.

Investigators said they think the teen hit a wet spot in the road and lost control.

His car hit a tree in the median, killing him, detectives said. His name has not been released.

The driver of the Mercedes did stop and talk to police. He was charged with felony racing.
