HPD searching for two gunmen

Gunmen shot through the ceiling into the upstairs apartment

HOUSTON – A fight between neighbors ended in gunfire at a southwest Houston apartment complex.

The shooting happened at the Coventry Park Apartments on Coventry Square Drive and Bissonnet Street at 9:45 p.m. Friday.

"Apparently it's in retaliation against two people who live in an upstairs apartment," said Kese Smith with the Houston Police Department. "They had a dispute with the people living downstairs."

Police said a man and woman were in the parking lot of their complex when two men began shooting at them.

The couple ran upstairs to their apartment.

According to officers, one gunman went to his downstairs unit and began firing into the ceiling in an attempt to hit the couple hiding in the apartment above.

"The guy just started shooting. He went in and out of the house, then pulled out a shotgun and shot up everything," said Shawn Smith, a witness and resident of the apartment complex.

Police called in the SWAT team to make sure neither gunman was still on the scene.

Despite dozens of rounds being fired, no one was hurt.

Witnesses said the gunmen escaped in a white Chevy Avalanche.
