HPD: Police search for shooter who killed man in drug deal gone bad

HOUSTON – Houston police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest wanted in the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of a woman on Friday.

According to Houston police, Jawanza Rooker, 20, and a female friend attempted to drive away from the 1600 block of North Loop West around 11:20 p.m. after a drug deal went bad, but someone followed them and fired several shots at their vehicle.

Rooker, the driver, lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road into a grass median.

Rooker suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene. The wounded woman, 19, was transported to an area hospital and later released.

The individual wanted for questioning is described as a Hispanic man with a slim build and black spiky hair. He has tattoos of an oil derrick (the former Houston Oilers logo) on his right forearm and a bull with horns (like the Houston Texans logo) on his left shoulder. He was wearing a red T-shirt that said Hollister 22 on the front.
