HOUSTON – A panhandler died after he was hit by a dump truck, officers at the scene said.
Houston police said the incident happened on Willowbend near South Post Oak about 1:30 a.m.

Witnesses said the man who was hit often begged for money in the area.
"I think he tried to cross the street," witness Don Treadwell said. "The light turned green and the driver didn't see him."
The man was rushed to a hospital, where he died, officers at the scene said. His name has not been released.
The dump truck driver has a valid license and was not impaired at the time of the incident, police said. He will not be cited, investigators said.
