A suspect was transported to the hospital after an officer opened fire Tuesday afternoon, Houston police say.

We're told a Houston police officer was responding to a disturbance call between a mother and her son around 4:30 p.m. on Stevens and Campbell near downtown Houston.

Houston police say the mom was attacked by the son, and when they entered the house, they feared the son was armed.

Investigators say an officer opened fire after the suspect raised his hands while making threats. Officers were seen questioning a mother inside of a patrol car. She was treated by EMS at the scene and released.

The suspect was transported to Ben Taub Hospital. His condition is currently unknown

No other details were immediately released.
