HPD: Officer off the job for cocaine possession charges

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer was arrested in Montgomery County on charges of cocaine possession.

Jasmine Renee Bonner is charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says on Tuesday night Bonner and her boyfriend, Derryck Collins, bought a kilo of cocaine in the 25000 block of the North Freeway in The Woodlands area.

Prosecutors say Bonner and Collins first put the drugs into her car, and then in a car belonging to Collins.

Both were arrested by federal agents and sheriff's deputies not long after they left the strip center on I-45.

According to the Montgomery Co. Sheriff's Office, Bonner had her 6-year-old son in the vehicle at the time of the alleged drug deal. Deputies say the child has been placed with a family member.

HPD says Bonner has been relieved of duty pending a criminal and administrative investigation.

"This has been a lengthy ongoing investigation and we continue to investigate that with multiple law enforcement agencies. This is something that was started with members of the Internal Affairs division," said Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland.

Bonner, 26, is being held in Montgomery County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.

Collins is being held without bond because prosecutors say he already has a pending marijuana charge.

Reporter Ryan Korsgard will have more details this afternoon on Local 2 News.
