HPD: Officer fatally shot in parking garage in downtown Houston

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a downtown Houston parking garage.

According to HPD, the discovery was made at a parking garage at the old HPD headquarters at 61 Riesner. An officer who was arriving at work pulled into the garage, then saw the officer slumped over in a patrol vehicle. The deceased officer was in uniform. A pistol was found inside the patrol vehicle.

The deceased officer worked out of the Traffic Enforcement division. Detectives say the officer had completed his court assignment for the day, before heading to the parking garage.

At this time police don't know what led up to the apparent suicide. An autopsy will most likely take place Wednesday.
