Man stabbed and killed in Southeast Houston

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department says they are investigating a stabbing death that occurred early Saturday morning at an apartment complex on Broadway and Morley in Southwest Houston.

Police said 59-year-old Howard Rankins was killed after a man used a knife and stabbed Rankins repeatedly.

Officials said the man showed up at Rankins' door at 3:15 am on Saturday. When Rankins answered the door holding a gun, the other man used a knife to break a nearby sliding glass door and enter the apartment.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they found the suspect trying to clean himself. Police said he is now in custody.

At this time, HPD said there is no indication that the man and Rankins knew each other.
